Tarangire National Park, Elephants Paradise

Most visitors to northern Tanzania are en route to the world-famous Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater; however, few realize that the area also contains one of Tanzania’s most rewarding reserves, Tarangire National Park.

Despite its ease of entry, Tarangire National Park is the least visited destination on the Northern Safari Circuit. Don’t let this deter you: at the right time of year, a Tarangire safari will provide some of Tanzania’s best game viewing.

Tarangire is best known for its elephant herds and tree-climbing lions, but it also has a few rare savannah animals that you won’t find in the Serengeti, such as the long-necked gerenuk. It’s home to all of the major predators, and with 550 bird species on the tick list, it’s a fantastic bird-watching destination.

Seasons, Wildlife & Landscape of Tarangire National Park

Getting its name from the Tarangire River which flows through it, Tarangire National Park is the sixth-largest national park in Tanzania. It is situated in Manyara Region covering a region of around 2,850 square kilometers (1,100 square miles).

At Tarangire National Park, you will see a large network of swamps that provides an important water body and sanctuary for a variety of wild animals including buffalo, giraffe, elephant, African wild dog, Thompson’s gazelle, greater and lesser kudu, eland, leopard and cheetah.

Tarangire National Park Safaris – What to expect on game drives

Firstly, it is important to point out that unlike most travel companies, at Ambolight Travellers we only offer fully customized, private-guided African safaris that allow you to have the full control of your experience.

Most importantly, all of our guests are given the flexibility they need to plan their daily game drives with their private safari guide (an English-speaking safari guide), who will be operating your exclusive safari vehicle. Therefore, you can choose exactly what you’d like to do, when you would like to start your private safari trip, and where you’d like to go.

Depending on your itinerary, you can start your Tarangire National Park Safari from Arusha or Kilimanjaro. During the dry season, Tarangire has so much to offer, therefore we recommend you spend at least two days in this lovely park.

Then, if you choose to explore Tarangire National Park on safari, we highly recommend that you use our qualified local safari guides so that you can discover unique things that one simply cannot find in guidebooks.
